William Munnerlyn son of William Munnerlyn (one
of the Revolutionary War brothers) and an Elizabeth Bingham, born 6 December
1790, Marion District, South Carolina. Some time after his father's
death his mother Elizabeth married John Sands Thomas by 1793. William was
eventually a successful business man in Marlboro County, South Carolina.
William first married Elizabeth Strother, ca. 1825. Elizabeth was born 16 Oct
1795 and died sometime before 1830. In the 1830 census there is indication that
there may have been a son to this marriage with a male between ages 5-9 in the
household. There is also another unidentified male of age 20-29 of whom is also
possible of being one of William's children, but could be one of his half
brothers. William and Elizabeth had at least two
children, Martha & Elizabeth. After his wife Elizabeth's death, William married a
second time to a woman by the name of Doritha ca. 1830. Doritha died
shortly after on April 30, 1830. William then married a third time to a
woman by name of Sarah some time between 1830 to 1835. Sarah died on June
11, 1835 in Bennettsville, Marlboro Co., SC. William then married a forth
time to Elizabeth "Betsey" David, ca. 1840. In the 1840 census,
there are two unidentified males one of age 15-19 and one of age 20-29.
Also there are three unidentified females two of ages 15-19 and one of age
20-29. These could have been children of Elizabeth David's first marriage
or children of one of Williams marriages. William and Elizabeth had one known child Charles
Thomas b. 1841. William died 1st of
August, 1850 in Bennettsville, Marlboro Co., SC, and is buried there in the Evergreen
Cemetery.
