William Munnerlyn was a son of James Munnerlyn,
Sr. and an unknown wife, born between the years 1745-1765. William fought in
the Revolutionary War with four of his brothers, Capt. John, Capt. James, Capt.
Benjamin and Sgt. Lofts Redlee. There is a rumor going around that William
died in the Rev. War, killed in the Battle of Ft. Watson or Ft Defiance on the Congaree
river. This is probably just a rumor, for his brother Loftis was at the battle of Ft.
Defiance and does not mention this in his Rev. War pension application. Also,
William had a son born in 1790. Two years after the end of the Rev. War
1786, William received a State Land Grant for 125 Acres in Georgetown District,
SC. William married to Elizabeth Bingham some time before 1789 in South
Carolina. William died a short time before the 1790 census, and on 6th
of December 1790, Elizabeth gave birth to a son she named William M.
Munnerlyn. William M. Munnerlyn, son of William died 1st of
August, 1850 in Bennettsville, Marlboro Co., SC, and is buried there in the Evergreen
Cemetery. It is unknown where William, the father of William M. was buried.
