William Clay Munnerlyn
(ca. May 1873 - 15 Nov 1950)
William "Bill" Clay Munnerlyn, the youngest child and son of Robert Munnerlyn and Mary Martin Hill, born ca. May, 1873 in Marlboro Co., South Carolina. Bill married in South Carolina ca. 1897 to Annie Creech. Bill's name has been difficult to determine. His information in his death certificate, provided by his son Marvin, gives his name as William M. Munnerlyn and that his father was Henry C. Munnerlyn. The name Marvin provided for William's father is also in contradiction, for on his mothers tombstone, it reads that her spouse was named "Robert", Bill's father. In Annie's death certificate, Bill's wife, the information was provided by William himself, and he gives his name as William B. Munnerlyn. The middle name Clay shows up in the obituary of his son Duiet's Obituary, the only source that has been seen that gives a full name for William. Bill was William's nick name that he went by which could explain the William B. on his wife's death certificate.
Bill's birth year also has conflicting information. The 1900 Census has William, b. May 1875, and Annie b. Dec 1879. Marvin gives his birth date in William's death certificate as 25th of December 1873. It may be that in Bill's Death Certificate, Marvin mixed up the birth date for Bill with the date of his mother's birth for the month. The year 1873 corresponds with William's age as listed in the first US Census he was recorded in. He was age seven in the 1880 census, which corresponds with the Year 1873. The year would not be an exact match if his birth month was December, but the year is and exact match with the birth month of May as listed in the 1900 census.
Bill died on 15th of November, 1950, in Bennettsville, Marlboro Co., South Carolina.
