Little is known on this Joseph Munnerlyn, but
there is much speculation on him. Speculation is that he was the son of
one of the South Carolina Munnerlyns, evidence points to Loftis Redlee and
James, Jr. in census records, although there is still the possibility that he
was a son of Capt. John or P. Benjamin. In as South Carolina Probate Roll #799,
it shows Joseph Munnerlyn, along with Gospero Sweet and Richard Woodberry, Jr. being named appraisers of the estate of Richard G.
Williams, the date was 2 April 1806.This is possibly the same Joseph.
Census information for the time period from 1810 - 1840 provides little
information. But, we do find him in Richmond Co., North Carolina in 1810
and in 1820 through 1840 we find him in Anson County, N.C. There is one discrepancy
in one of these census; the 1820 census has his name listed as John. This
could mean that his name was John Joseph or Joseph John. Several of the
descendants speculated to descend from this Joseph have the name Joseph, and one
has the name Joseph John, who would have been his grandson. Another piece of
evidence was found in the David Carpenter's Journal about a store in Pleasant
Grove. The Munnerlyns listed in this Journal were James, John, Joseph and
Richard. The journal covered a time from from 1834 to 1836. Richard
is listed as having purchased items for his father in a majority of the
Munnerlyn entries. After the 1840 census, it assumed that Joseph most likely
passed away. In the 1850 Census, several Munnerlyns or Munlins popup that may
have been his children. Further information is required to prove any of
the relationships with this Joseph Munnerlyn.
Speculated to be the Children of this Joseph
Munnerlyn. It is speculated that there were five sons, and two to four daughters.
One of the sons we do not have a name for, but his widow is found in the 1850
census with three sons.
