The son of John Sidney, grandson of John R. Munnerlyn. Jay was born 8 Aug. 1896 in Brownsville, Lonoke, Arkansas and died 29 July 1970 in Little Rock, Pulaski, AR. He married Ruby Wilson Speight on 19 July 1920 in Lonoke. They had two children, Leara Deanne and Jay Bryan, Jr. Jay was originally named William Jennings Bryan Munnerlyn. When he joined the Army in WWI, they told him that was too long and made him change it. He picked Jay Bryan. His mother was really mad at him over it! He made it to New York when the war ended, so he didn't have to go to the front. He worked in others grocery and mercantile stores before starting his own, Nu-Way Grocery, in the early 1940s.

The picture was taken probably at the grand opening of their grocery store in it's new location. The store was Nu-way Grocery. It served the Lonoke area for over 40 years, from the early 1940s until 1977 when their son retired.
