Isaac Dewey Munnerlyn
(22 Aug 1897 - 15 Jul 1975)

 

Isaac Dewey Munnerlyn, the youngest son of James Washington Munnerlyn & Hettie Elizabeth Parker was born in Brownsville, Lonoke Co., Arkansas on 22 August 1897. 

Isaac married on 13 June 1914 in Lonoke Co., AR to Eula Nell "Maud" Roebuck daughter of William Y. & Elizabeth Roebuck. Dewey and Eula had three children, Doyne Wiley (1915), Cecil Dewey (1918) and Prather Eugene (1921).  

Dewey & Eula must have had marital problems since in the 1920 census Dewey is living with his mother Hettie and his marital status is listed as "D".  Dewey & Eula must have had been separated on and off since one child was born in 1921 and they were divorced on 13 June 1926 in Lonoke Co., AR. Their divorce date must have been about the time that either Dewey or Eula re-married.  Eula and two of the Munnerlyn children are found in the 1930 Census with Dave Cooper.  Dewey by this time had re-married to Lyda Belle Hill.

Eula Roebecuk had re-married several times. She was divorced from Dave Cooper in 1934 about the same date she re-married to Garlin B. Barrier who had divorced his wife, Minnie Pruitt. This marriage did not last long for Eula and Mr. Barrier were divorced in 1937.  A cemetery marker has been found that fits the birth date for Eula Roebuck, which indicates that she had remarried to a Thompson, her marker reading "Eula Munnerlyn Thompson".

 

Lyda and Dewey had several children. Roderick Hillman (1927), Frederick (1929), Jewel Fey (ca. 1933), Patsy Jean (ca. 1935) and Isaac David (1942). Their child Frederick died as a young child about age five.

Lyda died in Conway Arkansas in 1943.  After her death Dewey went to Texas where one of his sisters was living at the time.  Dewey then married Georgialene Johnson sometime before 1943.  With this union one child was born, a daughter Carolyn.  Georgialena passed away some time before Dewey's 4th marriage.  Dewey married a fourth time to Iva Pearl Christan on 3 June 1956 in Harris Co., Texas. No children were born from this union.  Dewey returned to Arkansas where he died there in Rose Bud, White Co., Arkansas on 15 July 1975. Dewey's fourth wife Iva Pearl died in Arkansas in 1999.

Dewey was buried at Brownsville Cemetery outside of Lonoke, Lonoke Co., Arkansas. His head stone gives a death date of 8 Jul 1975.  There is some confusion with this since his death date according to the Social Security Death Index is given as 15 July 1975.
