Sarah Elizabeth
"Sallie" Munnerlyn
SARAH E. "SALLIE" CAWTHORN
(2 Jan 1835 - 12 Jan 1900)

SARAH E. "SALLIE" CAWTHORN, (Mrs. Francis Marion Cawthorn).
Sallie was the oldest daughter of Willis Rawls Munnerlyn and is wife, Sarah
Martha. She was born 2 January 1835 and it is unknown if she was born in SC
or AL. The census records are confusing on this point. Since we do not know
the exact date of the family's move to Baldwin County, AL we cannot say with
any certainty where she was born. She was raised in Baldwin County. She
married Francis Marion Cawthorn on 7 Dec. 1856 in Lafayette Co., AR after
the family moved to Caddo Parish, LA. There has been speculation that she
met Francis M. while the family was still living in ALA, however, no proof
of that fact has not found.
Sallie gave birth to 11 children of which 7 lived to
adulthood. She also raised 2 sons of her sister, Audria, who had married
James Brockman. Both Audria and James died leaving 3 orphan sons.
Sarah raised the two oldest, George and William, while her brother Samuel
and his wife, Ludie took the youngest, Marion, who was just a baby.
