Samuel Pierce Munnerlyn
(24 Feb 1852 - 13 Nov 1893)

SAMUEL PIERCE MUNNERLYN, Born 24 Feb 1852 - Died 13 November 1893. The youngest child of Willis Rawls and Sarah Martha Munnerlyn was born in Baldwin County, AL before the family moved to Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Date of the marriage is unknown, but they were probably married by Frances Lucretia “Ludie”’s father, Judge John Ryan in Miller County, AR where the Ryan family lived. Tis said that Ludie spent the night with a girlfriend and went to the girls church. While there she saw this handsome young man, went home and told her father she had seen the man she was going to marry, and sure enough she had caught his eye, also. Her sister, Eleanor must have caught the eye of Samuel’s brother, for she married his brother, Isaac. Samuel and Ludie had 6 children of records and a number who died as babies. Those children were: Effie; Ada L.; William P.; Ida Sarah; Samuel Ryan and Virgil V. Samuel was a farmer and a wagonmaker. He was an excellent worker with wood. It is said that people would come long distances and camp out near his home and wait for him to make them a wagon. His health started declining and in 1890 he sold out his land, took his family and moved to Erath County, TX for a dryer climate. The family stayed there for a year, the crop failed and his health did not improve. In 1892 he brought his family back to Caddo Parish where he purchased 40 acres of land close to the location of that he had sold. He died within two years of returning to Louisiana.
