Robert Barron Munnerlyn was born in Augusta,
Richmond Co., Georgia. His parents Francis "Frank" Withers
Munnerlyn and Mary Foster who resided in North Augusta, Aiken County, SC at the
time of his birth. Barron was entered as a student at The Citadel in
Charleston, SC by his mother in in 1921. Barron was given the nickname
"Cockie" during his stay at The Citadel. His enjoyment was in
the "Wild" social life. During his last three years in school, he had
the reputation of attending every dance given in Charleston. He rejected
having a military life over friendship, he felt the two did not go together.
Barron studied English History during his time at The Citadel, where graduated
with a B.A. in 1925. In 1925 Barron became associated with Penn Mutual
Life Insurance Co. In 1930 he became the District Manager for Penn Mutual.
Barron was a member of numerous business and social organizations, among those
were: Carolina Yacht Club, Board of Trustees, Baker Memorial Sanitarium,
Associated Charities Soc., Charleston Chamber of Commerce, Mason, Elk to name a
few. Barron lived with his brother at 95 Church Street in Charleston, SC,
the home of his parents until his death. Barron died in a local hospital on
March 21, 1968.
