James Keen Munnerlyn, III
(02 Jul 1875 - 15 Jul 1956)

 

James Keen Munnerlyn, III, the son of James Keen Munnerlyn, Jr. and Sarah Jane Coachman was born on 02 July 1875 in Georgia most likely in Savannah, Chatham Co., GA. When he was about ten years of age, his family moved from Savannah, GA to Clearwater, Hillsboro Co., FL.  Then in 1893 his family moved to Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL.  In 1900 Census, Duval Co., FL, James is recorded living with his parents and is works as a telegraph operator. James went by the name Jim or Jimmy. In the 1910 census, recorded as "James R. Munnerlyn", he was stationed at a military base in the Philippines, Pettit Barracks, Zamboanga, US Army. According to the World War I Draft Registration Card for James in 1918 he is living in New York City at 60 West 26th Street. He was working for the American Cain Co. at 120 Broadway, NY as a telegraph operator. According to his sister Olivia, Jim fought in the Spanish American War and road with Teddy Roosevelt and the "Rough Riders". Jim was said to be quite the character and was always looking for adventure. Jim was not located in the 1920 or 1930 census, at this time he may have been traveling on one of his personal adventures.  Jim never married, and retired to Bay Pines, Pinellas Co., Florida where he lived for several decades.  Jim died on 15 of July 1956 and was buried in Bay Pines National Cemetery; US Army CPL, Plot: 25 9.
