Frank Withers Munnerlyn was born in Charleston,
Charleston Co., South Carolina, the son of Francis "Frank" Withers
Munnerlyn and Mary Foster. Frank was entered as a student at The Citadel in
Charleston, SC by his mother in in 1931. Frank was Honorably Discharged
from the Citadel in 1933. Frank had a few jobs before he began working for
the the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. in 1935 as a Special Agent, the same
company where his brother Barron worked who was District Manager at the
time. Frank enlisted in military service at Ft. Moultrie, SC on 10 Aug.
1941 as a 2nd Lt. He was promoted 1st Lt. on Aug 21, 1942. His military
service took him all over the country, and he held many stations around the
US. In 1953 he was back at working as a Life Insurance Agent. Frank
enjoyed many of the same social and business experiences as his brother Barron,
of these included Carolina Yacht Club, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Stewards,
Trinity Methodist Church. On April 22, 1985, in
Charleston, SC in recognition of his longstanding service for the community and
his 50 years working with Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. where he also became
District Manager, the day was named Frank W. Munnerlyn day. The snack bar
located at The Citadel is named after Frank W. Munnerlyn, which was dedicated
abt. 1993. Frank died in Charleston on September 7th, 1990.
