Charles Wright Munnerlyn, born on the Greenwich
Plantation, Georgetown Co., South Carolina
on 18 March 1848, the son of a most prominent rice planter, Francis Waterman Munnerlyn, Sr. and Sarah Ann Kirvin Wright.
Given that Charles is referenced as "Captain" Charles W. Munnerlyn,
this suggests that he held a military ranking, which would have most likely been
during the civil war. Unfortunately, no military service records have been
found for Charles to prove he held this rank of Captain, which is given in his
obituary. Charles
married Rebecca Ann B. Savage on April 28, 1874 in Richmond Co., Georgia.
Charles was recorded in the books for the Methodist Episcopal Church, Georgetown
South Carolina as having left in September 1870. In 1880 He is found in Richmond
Co., Georgia where he had married his wife Rebecca. Later he moved back
across the river into South Carolina and lived out the reminder of his life in
North August, Aiken Co., South Carolina. Charles was recorded in the
census as being a traveling salesman. His obituary says he worked in the
wholesale grocery business. His family attended Grace
Methodist church of North Augusta. Charles died on
September 21, 1914 at the Pine
Heights Sanitarium in North Augusta. He was
buried in North Augusta, Aiken Co., South Carolina.
