Lucy Ann "Annie" (Munnerlyn) Lackey
( Nov. 1862 - 1903)

Lucy Annie Munlin (Munnerlyn) Lackey

Lucy Ann Munlin was the daughter of Joseph J. Munnerlyn and Mary E. Myers.  Lucy was born in Nov. 1862 in Alabama. A more precise birth location is speculated to be where her parents were found in the 1860 Census, in Intercourse, Sumter Co., Ala. Buck or Bud L. & Jane Myers, Lucy Ann's grandparents, on her mother's side of the family, were living in close proximity during the 1860 census, where her mother is also recorded in her parent's household.  Lucy Ann is known by the name she went by, Annie Munlin. It was not known that she had the name Lucy, until this information was found in the 1870 census. In the 1870 Census, she is living with her family under the household of her grand parents Buck & Jane Myers.  It appears that her father Joseph was deceased by this time and must have died between 1865-1869, possibly in Alabama or in Mississippi where the remainder of the family are living during the 1870 Census, in Lauderdale Co., MS. Annie has several siblings in the 1870 Census.  These include the following:

  • Jane                        b. ca. 1863, AL

  • Robert L.                b. ca. 1864, AL    Note: 1900 Census has birth May 1861.

  • Alexander Rutlege   b. ca. 1865, AL

Shortly after the 1870 Census, on August 7, 1870, Ann's mother Mary E. (Myers) Munnerlyn, married H. F. Alexander in Lauderdale Co., MS. Mary & Mr. Alexander had at least 5 children, so Annie had several siblings growing up in a farming household. On December 2, 1879, Annie married John Alexander Lawrence Lackey in Lauderdale Co., MS.  John was the son of Samuel Wray Lackey and Susan Amanda Covington. John and his father's family had moved from Mississippi to Hampden, Marengo Co., Alabama, where they are found in the 1880 Census. Between 1882 & 1887 Annie's family moved back to Mississippi judging from the birth locations of their children. John is listed as a Farmer in both the 1880 & 1900 census. By the 1900 Census, the family was living in Webster Co., Mississippi.  According to the 1900 census, Annie had 8 children, with 6 living.

Annie "Munlin" Munnerlyn & John Lackey had the following Issue:

1. Erma      b. May 1882, Marengo Co., AL

Annie died about three years after John's Death, 1903 in Webster Co., MS. Annie was buried in Edgeworth Cemetery in the Lodi community near Winona, Montgomery Co., MS
